Cernan Earth and Space Center at Triton College

2000 5th Ave North
River Grove Illinois, 60171

Hours: Here it is August 2021, and COVID numbers are rising. Triton College is requiring everyone wear masks indoors regardless of vaccination status. Of course, all this happened just as the Cernan Earth and Space Center was planning to resume public programs. Out of an abundance of caution, the Cernan Center will not be giving any general public programs for the foreseeable future, especially because 50% of a typical audience are youth who cannot be vaccinated yet. Cernan Earth and Space Center will continue to offer free virtual field trips into 2022. Schools, libraries, and other organizations are invited to schedule a one hour online program on a topic of their choice, free of charge. Cernan Center staff also plan to host free live events online for the general public. For classes and groups meeting in person, staff are prepared to welcome them into the planetarium on the Triton College campus on a limited basis. There is also the opportunity for families and groups to make reservations for private programs in the planetarium. Call for details. Needless to say, we are EXTREMELY disappointed to not have public back in the planetarium, but we also understand and completely agree with the reasoning for the delay. We want everyone to stay safe.

Even though we cannot open the planetarium to the public yet, VISITORS ARE WELCOME to stop by the Space Center Monday thru Friday from 930 a.m. to 430 p.m. to check out (for free) the lobby exhibits featuring Captain Cernan spaceflight artifacts, how different types of telescopes work, and a nice fossil collection. TAKE HOME a free monthly Abrams sky calendar designed to get you out under the real sky and help friends and family identify planets, bright stars and their constellations. The STAR STORE is also open during those hours so you can pick up astronaut ice cream, an Astronomy magazine, spacey t-shirt or hoodie, mugs, puzzles, jewelry or other amazing merchandise and gifts For the latest program and schedule information: • Follow us on Facebook at • Subscribe to our YouTube channel at • Visit our website at
